Walking into 2022…expecting our fourth baby after a season of loss…I couldn’t have asked for a more healing birth to attend. My first birth of 2022 was peaceful, beautiful, and just swelled with so much support.
The older kiddos were sleeping when I arrived on a cold January night. Ashley, my client, labored with such grace as the tub filled with water. Her bedroom was full of affirmations, gentle lighting, and the soft laughter of family and midwives.

I love seeing how differently we all labored. I think many folks (who hadn’t been around a lot of birth) might have assumed we had time based on how calm she was between, and even during, contractions.
She began instinctively pushing in the water, and we began to see her baby crown. But after several strong pushes, it became apparent we needed a change of position. We encouraged her to step outside of the tub…and literally as soon as her second leg flew over the edge of the bath…her baby girl flew out into her husband’s hands.
