Peaceful, sunlit homebirth outside of Boulder

As a birth photographer, my goal is to document strength, beauty, and love. Birth allows us to open up and show the depth of these attributes/emotions more than almost anything else. As the world changes rapidly because of COVID-19, I’m comforted by the simple fact that our bodies still know how to birth…and these new babies bring hope for a better tomorrow.

Although I’ve been unable to attend many births these last few weeks due to hospital restrictions, I’ve found myself entering the birth space in my mind as I go through old birth stories. I happened upon this birth - the birth of Eli - and I knew it was the right birth to share.

Orien and Andy are some of the kindest, most generous people you’ll ever meet…and their home is magical, inviting. You can see from these images just how much warmth they’d fostered there. And since so many of us are spending most of our days within the four walls of our home right now, I thought it appropriate to share a homebirth that exuded the type of environment I am trying to cultivate in my own home.

And yes - many of my clients are making choices to birth at home or birth centers due to COVID-19 and the stricter policies at many of our hospitals. I know that this isn’t the right choice for every family, or even most families, but it is an option worth considering if you are low-risk and healthy. We have SO MANY incredible homebirth providers in Colorado. I’m also currently offering special pricing/packages to homebirth and birth center families due this summer, so please reach out if you want to learn more.

I hope these images inspire you, make you smile, and remind you just how resilient humankind is…

PS. I also have to mention Andy’s incredible work. I’m always a little intimidated to photograph other photographers, especially ones as talented as Andy. I enjoy following him on IG to see all the incredible animals and landscapes he’s capturing. I imagine you might too!
